Bert's 70th Birthday Message!

Dear all,
You may, or may not know, that a fantastic party was organized for my 70th birthday on Friday 11th November.
I was whisked away in a stretch limo and after a mystery drive ended-up at the Battle of Britain Club in Uxbridge.
There were over 100 past and present members of QSC assembled to sing Happy Birthday to me and to ply me with cards and gifts so numerous, that I'm still reading and un-wrapping!
I was very moved to see so many faces from the past as well as the present, with a liberal sprinkling of youngsters who all had stories to tell and memories to recall. The compliments and good wishes I received were quite overwhelming and so obviously sincere that it is a wonder that I didn't 'blub' all evening! However, I kept a stiff upper lip (despite my new dentures!) and only had to dash the odd tear away every now and then ... no one noticed ... or did they?
Everything about the evening was absolutely 'spot-on'! The collection by Limo, the mystery tour to RAF Uxbridge, the big band, the food and bar, the speeches presentations but, above all, the multitude of really nice people that I have had the fortune to meet over the years. I class myself as being very lucky indeed to have so many good friends who, appear, never to forget the good times we have enjoyed in the past and hopefully, will continue to enjoy in the future!
What about the cheque and cash I received? I was absolutely dumbfounded to realize that over £700 had been collected for me to spend on a possible holiday to the Far East. I know that folk give generously to causes and things that they feel are worthwhile. I must now conclude that I have unwittingly carved a place in a lot of people's hearts over the years and do you know what? That means far more to me than anyone would ever think!
A pity the evening had to end. I could have spent all night talking about 'old times' ... but some had a long way to go home and I wound-up the party by throwing a cake at Calvin's car ... and then had to scrounge a lift as the limo had turned back into a pumpkin!
Whether you were at the party or not, I would like to express my most sincere thanks to everyone involved and can assure you that I shall remember that Friday evening for the rest of my 'span'. If I do get a bit 'scatty' (some will say that I definitely am now!) I can always see the pictures that were on display or look at Dave Swordy's video.

I think you are all wonderful ... a most sincere thanks, with big kisses to all!
Bert.
